New Defaults in US 7.5.1 for Newly Uploaded SCORM Content Increase Compatibility

By Profiscience Partners

One of the changes we made in UniversitySite 7.5.1 was to change the default settings for SCORM content that is uploaded. We made these changes because of compatibility issues discovered during playback such as the following:

  • Inability to exit when no exit button is provided in the content
  • Improperly recording completions when graded interactions were skipped with the playback controls
  • Inability to receive a successful completion when properly completing a SCORM compliant video.

We changed the launch behavior settings, wrapped the SCO with the API, and turned off browser full screen mode.

The reason for turning off full screen mode was because of support calls we have received from clients who have published lessons that don’t include an exit button which makes it nearly impossible to return to the LMS.

Generally speaking however, people tend to prefer full screen mode and we originally used this setting to provide what we felt was a better experience in most cases. For this reason we recommend as a best practice that you continue to enable full screen mode for any of your content that provides an exit button. Newly uploaded content will have full screen mode disabled as per the defaults in the screenshot provided. This can be changed for any specific eLearning by editing the course and modifying the Settings for Player Launch.

NOTE: Profsiciencē Partners will provide a SQL script to update all your existing eLearning content settings to match this new default if requested.
